You know a Good Music when you hear one....

Who is Maher Zain...?

Never heard of him before until yesterday, I 'stumbled' into Maher Zain 'by accident' on Facebook. I am so facinated with his songs and am very eager to buy his album but I just don't know where to get them from. Anybody can help me on this?

His songs are so soothing to the ears, the melody so sweet and light and the lyrics really touches my heart. I enclose in this entry a bit about him and also video clip of his song - 'INSYA ALLAH'. May Allah s.w.t. bless him and us all.

Maher Zain - Insha Allah ماهر زين - ان شاء الله

Maher's first musical inspiration came from his father, who was a singer himself, perfoming locally in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Tripoli-Lebanon. Facinated by the music and instruments, Maher got his first keyboard when he was only ten and ever since music officially became part of Maher's world.

The family moved to Sweden when Maher was only 8, where he continued his schooling and later entered university and got a Bachelor degree in Aeronautical Engineering. With things changing around him, one thing remained the same - his strong passion for music. He would spend late nights at school with his friends where they would sing, rap, compose and experiment with music in every way. It didn't take him long to realise that music became an integral part of who he is.

After being involved for a while in the music scene in Sweden as a music producer, Maher was introduced to RedOne, a gifted music producer who was fast rising in the music scene in Sweden. Maher started working with RedOne with Swedish artist, and later moved with him to New York. For a few years he was in the middle of the hot rush of NY music industry, working with chart topping artists such as Kat Deluna on her debut album which included smash hits 'Whine Up' and 'Running the Show'. Maher had what many would describe as a dream job for someone so young in such a glamorous business, but for Maher it felt like this was far from what he would call 'the dream', "I love the musics but I hated everyting that surrounded it, it always felt like somethin wasn't right".

RedOne was on the verge of breaking into the big time, going on to work with artists like Akon, Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Brandy, New Kids on the Block and Michael Jackson... to just name a few, and becoming one of the most sought-after music producers in the world. He, howoever, was restless and eventually decided that the music industry and all that surrounded wasn't the right place for him and he returned to Sweden. It wasn't until he met a group of brothers who were active in the Islamic community in Stockholm and he started regular attending his local mosque that he felt like he'd reached 'home'.

Maher feels blessed to able to finally find the right way, and feels like it's his turn now to help others through his music to do the same: "If I had one thing I'd like to tell people out there, it would be that, it's so easy to see the right way if we just open our eyes and look properly - that's what happened to me".

Darth Vader Goes Beserk..??!

......Zarif's Birthday.... continued....
The Birthday Boy - Zarif..
All were exited when the Birthday cake arrived...
Then.... OH... MY... GOD...!
(the Host, Loq, was very upset and furious..! and I don't blame her..)

...this cake looks like it was attacked by Darth Vader..!
....Darth Vader must have thrown a fit in the box on the way to Zarif's party.. or...

...something must have gone teribbly wrong during the journey from the bakery shop to the birthday boy's house.
As you can see from the picture - the bottom tier of the cake was cracking and splitting and the bottom half of the cake almost fall apart..!
Zarif's mom asked for my help to 'repair' the cake.. I dare not to.. coz with one wrong move the whole cake may collapse - that will upset her even more.... (I am sure she paid a lot for that Cake). The least I could think off was to cover it up with the my Cookie Monsters. But, on second thought, I suggested to better leave the cake alone as it is... we can explain to the guests.. the cake was meant to be designed like that... you know... STAR WARS, Sword Fighting, Meteorite.. Crater of the moon.. volcano eruption.. etc...etc... you get the drift... :)
Oh well... at least the cake tasted good..

By the way...the best part was ...all the children at the party were not bothered by the 'damaged' cake.. ..they were too engrossed and busy with games, "Balloon Lady" and the "Face and Hand Painting" session.

Here, Zarif's sister, Chi-Chi.. and myself.. (I love those balloons..)
Layla with her chosen design.. sweet pink butterfly...

my daughter with the "Ice Queen" face painting

And as for me... I enjoyed very much Loq's Shepperd Pie.. I had two helpings (biiggg scoops..!) Loq, if you are reading my blog... I really enjoyed the Party, especially the food. Thanks for having us.

NOTE: All Pictures of minor were published with the concent of their parents.

Its Good to Know Your Neighbour

Having a good neighbour is important.

Having a good neighbour is one of the most effective crime prevention tools ever invented. Neighbourhood watch teaches you the steps that you can take to help protect your home. It also organises neighbourhood crime prevention part of every persons daily routine, all you need to do is watch out for each other. Your job is to report suspicious activity to police. It is the police's job to handle the crooks (hmm... am a bit sceptical on this.. :+).
It just isn't the same way it was when I grew up in a small town. I knew everyone including their cats and dog (well..the only dog-German Sheppard- in the Taman) names. Even after I grew up and moved away from my home town, I got acquainted with my new neighbours, either by going door to door (bukan nak gossip..! just get to know them) or having a block party to get acquainted.

BLOCK PARTY?? ... sounds like a good idea...!

Plan the food and drinks. Call it "international night" and have each family make a dish that is unique to its heritage.. (must be halal-lah). Or have everyone bring their own food to grill. This is a surprisingly effective way to get strangers to mingle easily--they feel less awkward with something to do. You may even want a karaoke session for the group.

Dress up the block with colorful decorations. Buy lots of balloons and have everyone tie them to trees and fences on their property. You might consider a block theme color and decorate accordingly. Ask each family to make a family banner to display on its front lawn. Hang pinatas for the kids. Tiki torches and lots of twinkling lights are festive when the sun sets.
This is making me hungry just writing it.
Enjoy and have a festive time, but by all means get acquainted with your neighbors...

To my new neighbour -Siti - who just moved-in across the street last week...
These freshly homebaked banana muffins.... welcome her and her family to the neighbourbood.
