...the long silence (sort of...)

Happy New Year readers!
Sorry it's been a while since I've posted here, but for those who have been following on FB, I've been probably a bit TOO chatty. Apart from not feeling well for the last couple of weeks, I have been busy hacking various things. Actually, more like focusing on some things in my life, and clearing my head slowly. Though it's still a bit stuffed with various other things floating around, prodding me.
Enough of that... Here is a set of birthday cupcakes ordered by a filial Mommy for her beloved girls who were turning 8 recently and having a very girlie pink party for their special day.
All she wanted was some roses...
...Vanilla Cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting..
...lots of pink, buttercream roses...!

Happy Birthday Anis & Atiqah...
... and...thanks Abriza for the repeat order..

Bed of roses

Big bed of roses for a lovely lady who turned '40' recently (*LoL*) .
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AZLEEN...!
It was good fun putting this behemoth of cupcakes together, intended to serve 50, and I realized in retrospect how very fortunate I was - it was only when manoeuvring the cuppies into the small and tight little boxes corners that it occurred to me had the cupcakes been any wider and the petals slighty taller, I would be having a bit of a storage issue on my hands... Phew!

Note to future self: Must measure, must measure... widest, longest, tallest, etc.....!

There were dark moist chocolate and vanila cupcakes frosted with chocolate and vanila buttercream.

The roses are fashioned from very stiff buttercream - tinted a subtly variegated palette of peach, lemon yellow, pink, lilac, etc- piped using a petal tip on a flower nail.

Formed petal by petal, flower by flower, the roses are made ahead of time and allowed to 'dry' thoroughly before being adhered to the surface of the iced cupcakes.

The interstices are filled with clusters of leaves, piped using the white chocolate buttercream tinted with pale kelly green...

Piping the buttercream roses wasn’t too hard but transferring them onto the cuppies was a totally different matter altogether...these were the ones that survived the 'journey' ...
I must have aged ten years just transferring each of the 50 roses.
All in all, it was a really good, fun and very messy experience.

I really look forward to trying my hand at more buttercream roses and playing around with the different types of buttercreams.

The Cuppies That Almost Did'nt Make It..

There are times things don't cordinate well with me. Most of the time actually. It's like when you have a bad hair day, no matter how much you comb or gel-up your hair, when things don't like working, you hair will just refuse to set the way you want it to. I never had a bad hair day, since I just bun it up and hide it under my scarf, but I've had countless of bad cuppies and cake days and today was another one of them.

I have made some fondant roses yesterday for this order but somehow with the humid weather yesterday... some of the fondant roses became "lembik & soft". It was a bit too late to do anything about it, unless I have a great amount of time to re-do. I'm always short of time for a makeover hence, I called my customer and explained the situation.

I surrender the finished cuppies and wished on my lucky stars, moon, meteors, planets milkyway and the entire solar system for the customer to approve it.
Lucky she loves it..
Thanks Siti for the order...
...and most of all, thank you for your understanding..

The more we get together....

I was invited to a friend's house for a Brunch last weekend and wanted to take along something special for her and her guests... So I choose to create something simple, pretty and feminine (not knowing that there were men there as well..!)
The cake for these cuppies was my luscious chocolate and topped with buttercream frosting. Followed by a light sprinkle of silver dragees.

Dali, the excellent host & cook & her dearest friend, Nikki.
(p/s: Dali was too engrosed with her cooking and this candid photo was taken before Dali was able to freshen-up! Oops ...Sorry Dali)
aah..... she feels fresh now...
Layla, one of Dali's lovely children and her best friends (Nikki's kids).
Again, thanks Dali for inviting us..... the food was.... 'off-the-hook'!
