The phone rang: "Mak Lang, we want to order cake for Mama's birthday tapi tak ada budget. Can you teach us how to bake??" - how very sweet and kesian pulak kat my nieces & nephew.
Since the kids say they want to surprise their Mama, therefore I could not bake the cake their home. So I had to do it from my house, baked the cakes the night before, layered it at night and finished the decoration in the morning so at tea time the kids could surprise her.
Vanila cake is one of my sister's favorites.
I made a simple two-layer vanila cake and the colors are white and pastel marine blue with tiny roses in pink/burgandy (roses are her favorite flowers).
When I arrived at their home, hiding the cake from their Mother (my sister) was the hardest part but when she saw the cake, the surprised look and happiness on her face really made the kids (and me) happy. 
They loved the cake and I got a extra BIG HUG from the kids for making their mother happy - which really was the best...! :)
